Outreach
Contact us @ info@messiahchester.org if you are interested in joining us for any of the ministries listed below.
We cook and serve the evening meal at "Homeless Solutions," the facility for the homeless in Morris County, every first Thursday and every third Saturday of the odd months of the year. Our next visits will be on Thursday March 1 and Saturday March 17.
We support the Haven of Hope in Hope. We served on July 22 this year providing the BBQ meal for two families staying at the cottages there.
Each Lent season we provide Easter bags for all the people who receive food from the Chester food pantry. This year we will be making a bag for each of the 50 plus needy families.
Each Advent season we have a Christmas Giving Tree; the "ornaments" are requests for gifts for needy seniors who attend the Time Out Senior Center in Succusunna.
Our Thrift shop helps the needy in the community, inviting them to free shopping.
We supplied many clothes for the needy in Jersey City.
Last summer the children attending our Vacation Bible School brought many cans of food for the Chester food pantry
On Halloween day three of our members went door to door requesting food donations in lieu of treats (or tricks.) We filled several boxes with the donations we received, which were also taken to Washington Township food pantry.
For this year's Mission trip we worked with the staff of the Seamen's Church Institute at Port Newark from July 10 - July 15. Last August six of us went to partner with St Paul's Church in Paterson where we helped lead their Vacation Bible School. We also assisted with feeding programs and other ministries in the city of Paterson. In August of 2009 six of us went to NY City for a week for our Mission trip, and as in previous years, it was an amazing spiritual journey for those who participated.
We participate on the Long Valley CROP Walk each year. Last year it was on Sunday October 23. With our fellow Long Valley churches we raise money for world hunger.
Pedals for Progress - In previous springs we gathered bikes to be shipped to a third world country.
Last spring we invited kids to make little planters for the seniors who live at Chester Area Senior Housing.
Our Neighbors in Need program supports people in our local community. We collect items in greatest demand for one of these three organizations, on a rotating basis, one each month: The Chester Food Pantry, The Interfaith Council of Washington Township Food Pantry, and North Porch in Dover (provides for the needs of mothers and infants). We encourage our members to bring the items to church and they are brought up the the altar to be blessed during the offertory hymn.
